You gotta get to this ride. No excuses.
THE MOONLIGHT MADNESS RIDE
Take a night-time bike tour of Baltimore City on a safe, well lit, mostly flat route of about 20 miles. Get an intimate view of the city after dark. Skyline, neighborhoods and waterfront as well as sights ranging from illuminated classical buildings and monuments to the neon of “The Block”, from churches, museums, and City Hall to the enormous “Wizard of Boh”.
Ride Start: in front of the Youth Hostel at the corner of Mulberry and Cathedral. Thursday, July 30th. 8:00pm with an 8:30 push-off.
(catty-corner from the main branch of the Pratt Library)
Ride is casual speed: 10-12mph. length: 20miles. You should have a properly functioning bike, be wearing a helmet, and have safety lights on front and back.

This ride is FUN! We went last year — those three reflective flashes in the middle are (left-right) Zack, Johnny, Matt.

Sounds great! But I’ll be out of town… will there be any of these in the fall?

Is there a link to wherever this posting came from? With the scrolling windows I’m having trouble reading it. What time do they meet?

Awesome! I was wondering if it was on again this year! I think that was the first night I rode a total of 40 miles (the ride plus my round trip from towson down to the ride starting point), which pretty much destroyed me, but in a good way…
Can’t wait!

Not sure what the time is. I asked Bob, who’s the organizer and awesome. If I remember from last year, it coincided with sunset.

Hello,
Is this ride happening this year, 2009? Can you please contact mewith more information so I can advertise it to hostel guests and through our message boards. I know I personally would like to participate.
Thanks!

Hi, can anyone tell me the approximate route that this ride will take? (Or at least a list of major intersections). My young niece wants to go, I just want to be able to identify strategic “bail-out” spots in case we need to cut the ride short.

No problem, Angelo!
If memory serves me correctly, it was roughly like this:
From Hostel, up Charles Street all the way past Loyola to Wyndhurst, across and then down Roland Avenue through Roland Park and Hampden.
Through Remington to 25th Street, Down St. Paul, some winding to Guilford, South of the Washington Monument by way of Bolton Hill.
Cut across Lexington and Holiday in front of City Hall.
Across The Block, down a side street to Pratt, then across and along the waterfront.
Down to Fell’s Point for a break, then to Canton (past the park), then back through Fell’s Point and the waterfront and a trip on the loop that goes around Harbor Place to Key Highway and Federal Hill.
Then back up Charles to the Hostel.
(Does that sound right, Bob?)

Where is the closest parking for this event? Is there any free parking nearby?
07.29.09 at 9:14 am
Johnny
I’m not sure what’s really closest (I don’t have a car), but you might have luck with on-street parking that time of night on Charles or Cathedral. It’s pretty close to the Lightrail; you could park at a Lightrail stop and take your bike on the train (it’s allowed:)).

Light rail is a good idea but the MTA website (http://www.mtamaryland.com/services/lightrail/schedule/) says that it only runs until 11 PM on weeknights. We’ll have to be sure not to spend too much time at the rest stops!

LOL, good call:)
I think we were back by 11 last year if I remember correctly. I rode home another 5 miles and was SORE and took forever and hit my apartment at like 11 or 11:30 I think.
Can you take a bus? They usually run later, and they all have racks now.
That’s totally bullshit, though, that the trains only run until 11pm, esp on weekends. I had hoped our governor was going to be awesome for transit, but, uh, not so much. 🙂

I’ll be at the water tower in Hampden/RP at 7:30-riding down from Pinehurst-and back.
