In the fall, University Parkway was resurfaced (check out the video of it getting eaten). The blacktop has been nice since then, but it’s lacked markings. As soon as the weather warmed a few weeks ago, the traffic lanes and bike lane lines went back up. Today, a crew was out on North-bound West University Parkway, putting in markings within the lanes. They look fantastic! Many thanks to the work of folks like Nate!

I see they are still putting the bike lane in the door zone of the parked cars. Actually looking at the picture I think parked cars would hang over into the bike lane.

Actually, going northbound, the lane is pretty easy to navigate in terms of avoiding getting doored. Much better than other on street painted lanes. In this photo, farther up the hill (closer to Roland) it looks more cramped because it is – but not for too long (it gets more comfortable with better visibility after it merges with Roland).
The better half of the lane is fairly wide and actually has a few inches of buffer where the right painted line ends to where the outer edge of a normal size car parked curbside would extend to. Make sense?

I feel like they used to be in major door-zone territory. But they moved them over when the put them back in. South-board, especially, feels much better to me. (Could just be the nice new pavement though, lol.)

Yes this is great! Just wanted to note, where the lane begins at W.40th street heading north on W University there is little transition for drivers. The right lane is abruptly moved left with no warning. I’m not complaining I’m just suggesting some sort of markings to indicate a shift in lanes might be helpful to drivers. As thing are now I could see a cyclist being rear ended. I do ride that route quite a bit but, here I am speaking from the driver’s seat. It is a very sudden shift and I found myself driving in the bike lane. Never the less, very happy to see them painted back on the road.

On the South-bound side, where I live, there are cones telling folks not to park there this week. I wonder if the MOVE OVER, STUPID SPEEDERS arrows are coming back this week? People really drive like nuts there. I keep waiting for someone to hit someone or just wreck at Roland/University.
Also, as Liam noted, bike lanes from North Avenue to Penn Station on St. Paul Street! Sweet!
