Well the NBBB rolled on downtown on Thursday night in the Moonlight Madness ride. For the exception of a few flats and a bad spill everyone seemed to have a good time. Thank you, thank you , thank you to the folks who put this ride together. I totally enjoyed myself. It was so great to see people from all different walks of life with all different kinds of bikes come together to take a ride. It was also great to meet some of the folks who visit this blog and be able to say thanks for visiting, face to face. To the guy who took the spill: I think I can speak for everyone on the ride and say, get well soon, fellow velo.
In other news, I’m gonna be representing the NBBB down at OC for a few days. I’m planning on riding the length of the island. I’ll be sure to post about it with some pics. Has anyone out there ridden this before? If so, anything I should look out for or look forward too?

I visited OC back in June and rode from the US-50 junction all the way through to Delaware State Park just south of Dewey beach. Really nice, enjoyable ride if you catch the right weather.
I highly recommend all points north of Fenwick Island. The ride opens up quite a bit and there is less traffic congestion. That, and the scenery is nicer — more sand, tall ocean grass and ocean view property instead of the condo-rot that has infested OC. There are a couple of state parks along the way, as well.
Enjoy! Hope the weather treats you well!

Damn, I’m jealous. I can’t even ride today because not sleeping much since this time last week has gotten me sick:(
MM was @#$%ing awesome, though. I can’t believe how many people came, and all the smiles and blinkies that infested Charles Street that night:)

Thanks for the tips JustIN. I’m staying at 139th so Delaware i s only a street or two down from me. Dunes and cat tails sound a lot nicer then condo-rot. I’ll be sure to get down there.

Johnny the city is infested with so many ugly things. Blinkie infestation might be the answer to combat the bad infestations.

Just found your blog a few days ago, I’m from North Baltimore (Medfield), so I’m riding around the same streets as you guys. There’s lots of good riding on the eastern shore. I’ve been as far South as Assateague State park in MD and North to Cape Henlopen State Park in DE. If you have any questions about routes let me know. Here are some decent maps…
http://www.deldot.gov/information/community_programs_and_services/bike/biking_in_delaware/maps.shtml – the Sussex County Bike map has all the bike routes along the beach in Southern Delaware.
The Seagull Century route provides a nice ride inland on the Maryland side too. – http://www.seagullcentury.org/satridedetails.html
Enjoy the time at the Ocean, keep riding and keep blogging!

Thanks for the links bikesncoffee. I live in Medfield too. You should come out for a ride with us man. Usually coffee is involved at some point.

Absolutely, I was going to try and make it to the “Moonlight” ride last week, but I was too busy… I’ll keep an eye on this space for your next group ride. Trying to keep my miles up this month to get in shape for a century this fall.

Arggh, I should have checked your bicycles tab, Dave. All makes sense, now. Which event are you targeting for your century?

Like to do BBC’s Civil War Century, but I don’t know if I can handle it. A friend of mine who’s more fit than me did it last year and said the mountains were killers. Definitely the Seagull Century.

I would like to do a century this fall (never done one), but 7400 feet of climbing? No way I’d be ready for that by mid-September.

Or anytime this year, FTM.

The Seagull is a great ‘easy’ century. I rode it last year, and aside from some headwinds while heading for the coast, it wasn’t bad at all. Trained, but only put about 60% of the effort into it that I should have.

The Seagull sounds like a good goal for my first century. The date is almost exactly when I expect to have 1000 commuting miles under my belt, and I guess I can always take the metric century if I don’t feel like I’m shape for the full 100 miles.
Thanks for the recommendation.
