You seem to have missed the humor in the idea of getting passed by a bike with a milkcrate in your attempt to make me look like a hypocrite.

Hybrids don't usually catch roadbikes that have a five minute headstart in the space of a block. I caught up with him because I was cycling faster than him because I was late for work (which I mentioned), not because I was racing him to beat him. The feeling like poo part was an attempt at humor. The point is that he caught up with me on the trail. See, HE raced ME.

Besides, there's a hell of a lot more to racehead bullshit than merely passing people or keeping up with someone who's obviously racing you. A lot more. And if I had in fact succumbed to the racing the dude on the nicer bike bullshit, I would not have dropped back and gotten myself into the position to get cut off when he busted his ass to catch me. When I realized he was racing me, I backed off.

Yeah, you missed that part. In fact, faced with a part of racehead bullshit, I did not participate. So there.

But since you left a fake email address, I doubt you'll get the reply. Though, judging by the stats from yesterday and today, you were stalking that post for a while. So maybe you will.

P.S. We don't publish comments without valid email addresses. Free speech requires accountability. Yes, you got one by. We're hypocrites, fine. Spam filter next time.

So you intentionally attempted to catch and pass him to make him feel like poo, but you don't want to get caught up in the stupid race-head BS when he passes you?

This has been a wacky week for cycling. Riding from downtown to North Baltimore in that wind, you deserve some serious kudos.:)

facing a stiff headwind entire way home last night, i was happy to finally be heading down the homestretch of Roland Heights to my abode. getting ready to ride up the curb to my house I slowed down to let a car parallel park. no cars in sight, i moved left to head up the curb, when SCREEEECH! some guy on a bike almost nailed me. no "hey, on your left", he was just going to whiz by. he apologized, which was decent of him, but as he proceeded down the road, he neglected to let a car complete a three point turn...went behind the car, forcing it to break when it was nearly done backing up across the street.
i know roland height is a fun stretch of road, especially if you get a green crossing over falls road, but dude, relax...last thing I need is getting slammed by a bike after avoiding cars whilst being buffeted by +30mph wind gusts.

I've seen folks on Maryland take some, frankly, stupid risks. A messenger-looking kid (not a messenger what that tiny bag!) yesterday morning cut off three cars and a bus at North Avenue. People like that hurt the rest of us. One of the cars he cut off almost hit me.

[...] What’s up with the rude cyclists lately? Are they pissed that they have to ride because of gas prices or something? I mean, I love the greater number of cyclists. But there was a time when most of the people I passed greeted me back or even first. You know: last year! [...]

Well, I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty when it comes to going through redlights, but I do come to a complete stop before I proceed.

When it comes to passing people, I'm good about announcing my intentions. On the other hand, some guy whizzed past me this morning heading south on Maryland. High speed, tight quarters traffic coming up and, bam, next thing I know some dude comes within a foot of my shoulder. I don't have mirrors on my bike, so had no clue he was coming up. Luckily, I ride a straight line, but if I had veered just a tad...whammo!

One other problem is a gaggle of kids heading to school via the Jones Falls Trail. It's nice to see them out riding, but they need to quit riding 3 abreast. I need some room to squeeze by!

Yeah, the same dude was pulling shit another day this week:

Dear Wiener,
If you're going to pass me, don't ride four feet to my left for four blocks and then turn. That is not passing. That is dumb shit that cars do.
I think you need to accept the fact that I am faster than you on my hybrid. Seriously. And I'm not very fast at all, either.
You are not Lance.
Thank you.
